Membership terms and conditions

 

1. Organization and activities

Trust IOEMT Onlus (hereafter "IOEMT") is a non-profit organization, registered and existing under the law of Italy as an onlus / charitable trust, who is based on the voluntary and independent participation of its members in the following activities:

 

a) The identification of urgent prehospital medical care needs in occasion of mass casualty incidents (as natural disasters, humanitarian crisis) through its international connections with governmental or non-governmental organizations; the planning and organization of an immediate emergency medical response in the affected area through the dispatch of specific teams of voluntary and independent members on site; the collection and dispatch of medical equipment and emergency vehicles destined to local emergency medical services or rescue organizations;

b) The identification of prehospital medical care training needs in developing countries through its international connections with governmental or non-governmental organizations; the planning and organization of training programs provided by teams of voluntary and independent members specifically skilled for the task;

c) The planning and organization of first medical response programs to the population provided by teams of voluntary and independent members specifically skilled for the task;

d) The creation of a community among its member in order to share information. on-site experiences and best practices aiming to diffuse international protocols and improve the professional level and recognition of the EMTs in the National Healthcare Services.

 

 

2. Eligibility for membership

In order to be eligible, members must:

a) be at least 18 years old;

b) speak English language;

c) be a certified EMT or recognized medical rescuer in their country;

d) be an active member of an EMS (or similar agency) or alternatively an EMT instructor/trainer;

e) be able to provide documents proving the previous conditions in case of request;

f) be willing to voluntarily participate in at least one IOEMT activity; 

 

 

3. Admittance into membership and renewal

Applications for membership may be submitted by any individuals who are eligible for membership as detailed in the "eligibility conditions" page. When submitting an application for membership, you agree to adhere to the terms and conditions of membership as well as to the IOEMT liability waiver.  If you are eligible for membership, your membership will be activated in the appropriate member category after acceptance of your application and payment of the membership fee. If your membership application will be rejected, the paid fee will be entirely refunded. 

Applying members from Least Developed Countries, as per the United Nations definition and list, are exempt from the membership fee and can join IOEMT for free.

Random checks of member's certifications and qualifications may be carried out by IOEMT in order to guarantee the professional level of its members community.

IOEMT retains the right to amend its membership categories, benefits and criteria at its sole discretion, without prior notice, at any time.  However, any details of such amendments will be posted on the IOEMT Website. 

 

 

4. Duration of membership

Unless specified otherwise written indication, IOEMT Membership is valid through the end of each calendar year.  Therefore, all memberships expire on December 31st of each year, regardless of the date of application and payment of member dues.  Member Dues will be due for payment on January 15 of each year.

However, due to administrative requirements and depending on the date your application is received, this time period may extend 2 weeks. Back issues are not delivered. At the membership expiration, its renewal and its level will be conditionated to the possession of the eligibility as detailed in the art. 2 of this Terms & Conditions.

 

 

5. Termination of membership

If you wish to discontinue your membership in IOEMT, you can cancel your membership at any time by contacting IOEMT. Membership will expire at the end of the annual year, and IOEMT will not refund any fees already paid for the preceding period. 

Per the IOEMT Bylaws, the membership of any regular member whose dues are more than 90 days overdue after having been sent at least two reminders shall be terminated without further notice.

 

 

6. Payment of membership dues

Payment of membership dues is required to complete the application. Membership fee is non-trasferable and refundable only in case of membership application denial.  Once your membership in IOEMT is activated, the membership renewal payment will be due on January 15th of each year for as long as you remain a member. In advance of the date your membership will expire, you will receive a notification either via postal mail and/or email and a request for payment of the membership fee.  You will continue to receive notices until you complete your renewal, or your membership is terminated.

IOEMT retains the right to change the membership fee you pay but will inform you about any such changes before they are implemented. IOEMT retains the right to change the definition and eligibility criteria for any discounted rate.

 

 

IOEMT liability waiver

 

IOEMT is a non-profit organization operating as a hub connecting voluntary and independent EMTs who freely join the organization in order to realize the activities as detailed in art. 1 of Terms and Conditions. IOEMT will plan, organize and implement activities with the contribution of its members who will individually take on the personal responsibility for any legal consequence due to or arising from or relating to his participation in the aforementioned activities.

 

1. Waiver

You understand that participation in the IOEMT activities is potentially hazardous, and that a member should not participate unless he is medically able and properly trained to manage the above mentioned activities. You understand that IOEMT activities and events may be held in insecure conditions and unstable scenarios, in developed or developing countries, where security conditions cannot be guaranteed in spite of all the efforts of the IOEMT to reduce and control any risk. Therefore participation carries with it certain inherent risks that cannot be eliminated completely ranging from minor injuries to catastrophic injuries including death. You understand and agree that in consideration of your voluntary and indipendent participation in the above mentioned activities and events, you hereby release, waive, discharge and convenant not to sue IOEMT for any and all liability from any and all claims arising from your participation.

 

2. Limitation of liability

The IOEMT shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential damage, resulting from your participation in any of the IOEMT activities and events.

Moreover IOEMT does not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any information in, or provided in connection with, their sites and properties. IOEMT is not responsible for any errors or omissions, or for the results obtained from the use of such information. You understand and agree that any material and/or data downloaded or otherwise obtained through the use of the IOEMT sites is at your own discretion and risk and that you will be solely responsible for any damage to your own computer system or loss of data that results from the download of such material and/or data. You also understand that IOEMT eCard, internationally certifying your EMT level, doesn't automatically grant you the acknowledgement of your professional level in countries different from yours nor authorizes you to operate beyond the scope of practice and the medical policies set by your local EMS organization or certifying body for your specific level.

 

3. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold IOEMT harmless from and against any and all damages, costs, claims or demands, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, made by any third party due to or arising from or relating to your participation in the IOEMT activities or events or the violation of any term of this Terms and Conditions.

 

4. Applicable law

The IOEMT sites (excluding linked sites) are controlled by IOEMT from its offices within Italy. By subimissing your membership request form, both you and IOEMT agree that the statutes and laws of Italy, without regard to the conflict of laws principles thereof, will apply to all matters relating to this membership, this Terms and Conditions and this liability waiver. You agree that exclusive jurisdiction for any dispute with IOEMT resides in the courts of Italy and you further agree and expressly consent to the exercise of personal jurisdiction in the courts of Italy in connection with any dispute including any claim involving IOEMT or its affiliates, subsidiaries, employees, contractors, officers, directors, telecommunication providers and content providers.
